London Highlights during the 2012 Olympic Games

Lest you skip straight from the Olympic Stadium back to your Boutique London Lets apartment when the day's sporting action is done, here's our pick of the best food, festivals, after parties and Olympic Games extras happening in the city next July and August.

First of all, the official London 2012 Festival kicks off in a year's time on the 21st June, lasting until the end of the Paralympic Games on 9th September. Its the finale of the Cultural Olympiad which is a group of local and large-scale events which have been happening across the UK since 2008 and the organisers reckon it will be the biggest party the UK has ever seen.

The programme looks appetising - lots of fun, free, family events including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, a World Shakespeare Festival, the best of British Comedy at the Hackney Empire and The Crash of the Elysium - a Punchdrunk live theatre experience based on the cult British TV show Dr Who for children aged 6 to 12.  Find out more - click here.

If you want to discover more of East London during your evenings after a long day at the Olympic stadium, the Scip Mylo Festival is putting on plenty of parties and cultural events. It is launching this summer with a Music and Comedy Festival from 8th to the 17th September and although the details of what is planned during the Olympics are still under wraps, lots of East London venues are in talks with the organisers about music, film, arts and theatre events. One for grown ups.

Keep an eye on their Facebook page - click here - and new website - click here -  where you can register for updates.

Watching athletes strut their stuff will no doubt help you work up a hero's appetite every couple of hours. Food wise, you can look forward to a wide range of cuisine choices although we can only speculate what hideous prices they will charge. London 2012 organisers have chosen a mix of huge, international brands like Coca-cola, Mcdonalds and Cadburys and a Best of British menu for the venues.

Bananas and tea will be Fairtrade and British cheeses like Cheddar will have to be British grown. Also, free drinking water will be supplied at all the Olympic venues, just in case we have another scorching summer. If you want to save some money, why not prepare a picnic in the kitchen of your Boutique London Lets apartment and eat it amongst the tress of the Olympic Park before you begin long stretches of spectating?
