The Games – Don't Miss These

Twenty six sports will make up the 2012 Olympic Games here in London but it's fair to say that some have already attracted much more attention -  it seems all sports are equal but some are more equal than others. Hot tickets include athletics, basketball, cycling, swimming and gymnastics.

Athletics will mainly take place in the Olympic Park and includes track events (like the 100m), field events (like the High Jump), combined events (like the Decathlon) and road events, including the Marathon.

The Swimming events will take place in the Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park, apart from the Marathon Swim, a gruelling 10km which is hosted by Hyde Park in West London.

The Basketball competition begins in the Olympic Park but then moves to the North Greenwich Arena, in South East London. Its also where you'll find the Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline events. For Rhythmic Gymnastics, you'll have to make the trek to Wembley (North West London).

The track cycling will of course be held at the Velodrome, in the north of the Olympic Park, but the road cycling will take in The Mall and Hampton Court (South West London), the Mountain Bike competition will be out in Hadleigh Farm in Essex (further East than the Olympic Stadium) and there's a dedicated BMX track at the Olympic Park too for those events.

The two marathons, men's and women's, are taking place on 12th and 5th August respectively and will definitely be a highlight of the whole Olympic Games. However - don't forget that the route is now restricted to central London, taking in famous Westminster landmarks, it will not actually culminate at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

And don't forget the ceremonies. Boris Johnson, Major of London, has promised that the Opening Ceremony won't disappoint - expect music, dance and fireworks as the athletes parade into the stadium on 27th July.

The Closing Ceremony, less of a focus for the world's media, will be held on 12th August. If you can't bag tickets, they are still worth watching: just sit back and catch the ceremonies on TV in your Boutique London Lets apartment.
